South Carolina boasts beautiful weather and comfortable temperatures most of the year, along with sand, sun, and fun. Give the students of the group an end of summer and pre-back-to-school break before the chaos. There are a variety of fun and exciting things to do and interesting places to see to keep everyone happy and busy enjoying Isle of Palms vacation as the countdown toward the school year begins.

Beaches

An escape to a beach location like Isle of Palms, no matter the time of year you come, means whiling away the hours and days on the beach. Sunbathe, take a walk, build sandcastles with the kids, or plant a beach umbrella and enjoy a picnic or a good book.

The waters of the Atlantic begin to cool, but you can still take a dip and enjoy activities like swimming, snorkeling, SCUBA, and more. Up the adventure with parasailing, wakeboarding, and water sports and activities that will have your adrenaline pumping.

Biking

There are some places around town that larger vehicles like rental cars and our special beach carts can’t fit. Rent a bike and take a tour of the area you’ve decided to call home before the school year starts, get some exercise at the same time, and negotiate those tighter passages.

Choose from adult bikes, children’s bikes, and accessories including child seats or trailers. Rentals include helmets, but you’ll want to ask about other safety gear and accessories like lights, extra baskets, and whatever else is on your bike at home.

Shelling

While you might consider any beach activity something for the warmer months of the heart of summer, that’s not the case in Isle of Palms. Beachcombing and shelling bring unique finds you may not see the rest of the year. Seasonal storms dislodge and kick up more unique shells and wash them ashore. Make your way to the beach shortly after one of these storms to find specimens that may not wash up in a typical tide change. If there’s no storm, another optimum time is the hours following low tide.

Fishing

Coastal towns like Isle of Palms are all about the water. If you or any of your back to school traveling companions are anglers, get in on the many fun water and beach activities, while also taking some time out to cast a line.

Take an all-inclusive charter trip that will no doubt net you amazing catches or plot your own fishing adventure. There are inland locations where you can cast a line, or fish while the surf laps over your bare feet. Charter trips often provide all the gear, bait, and tackle you’ll need, but you’ll have to make sure your gear makes the packing list, or you can secure rentals.

Make secure the proper South Carolina fishing license before heading out.

Shopping & Dining

The many activities and attractions you’ll experience during your Isle of Palms vacation can net you some awesome souvenirs. But you may want to hit the local shops for some truly unique Isle of Palms pieces. The students of the group will likely score some cool finds they’ll want to show off to their friends. There’s also unique beachwear to be had to remember your trip in the cooler months back home.

Sample the flavors of Isle of Palms. There are a number of local restaurants, cafes, and eateries ready to serve you breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Enjoy fresh seafood caught from the waters of the Atlantic, as well as Italian, Mexican, and Caribbean flavors. Stop by a local market and pick up what you need for a delicious meal at your rental.

Wildlife Spotting

Board a charter vessel and head out in search of local wildlife or take a walk along the beach. A beach walk will have you spotting critters including crabs and more. The charter tour will bring you closer to Atlantic Ocean residents like dolphins, whales, and others.

If your walk takes you to inland water sources, don’t be surprised to see a turtle or alligator nearby. Everyone – people and animals – can stay safe as long as you give the creatures plenty of space and only watch from afar.
