South Carolina boasts beautiful weather, sand, sun, fun, and comfortable temperatures for most of the year, including during the Halloween season. Along with the crashing waves of the Atlantic Ocean, the combination will have you pointing your compass toward the Palmetto State and the city of Isle of Palms for a relaxing getaway with loved ones. Please keep in mind some of the festival activities will be closing streets to motor vehicle traffic.
Halloween Parade
Start the spooky fun by watching or participating in the annual golf cart parade. Decorate your golf cart and parade through the streets of Isle of Palms – and compete in a costume contest and best decorated golf cart contest all at once! The golf cart parade starts at 4 p.m. on October 27, 2023, with a lineup of pre-registered carts at 3:30 pm on 27th Avenue.
Drive-Thru Haunted House
Keep the fun rolling after the parade with a visit to the Drive-Thru Haunted House. Drive your electric-powered golf cart only (NO gas-powered carts) less than 7 feet tall and get spooked. Kids will receive trick-or-treat goodie bags! The event takes place October 27, 2023.
Halloween Festival
In addition to the parade and haunted house, the festival takes over the Rec Center, too! Join the party 4-6 p.m. where there will be food trucks, vendors, inflatables, and more. Food trucks will be set up on Hartnett Boulevard between 27th and 28th Avenues. There is no charge for the event, but food trucks and other vendors may cost extra. Add the event to your October 27th calendar of events.
Trick or Treat
Any houses participating in trick-or-treat activities will be dressed in their Halloween best! Locals know to target the homes around the Rec Center and along Hartnett and Cameron Boulevards, but judging by the number of participating homes this year, you’ll find some sweets no matter what road you turn down! Halloween lands on a Tuesday this year, and date and time for Trick or Treat festivities are TBA.
Golf Cart Rentals
Leave the rental car parked and still get around on four wheels. Hop on a golf cart to explore the island’s nooks and crannies you can’t get to by car. Several area companies rent golf carts for a different way to experience everything the island has to offer. Most are street legal, so you can cruise the road, too, but the best part is when you cruise down the sand to get to your next beach relaxation spot. Decorate the cart with removable and non-damaging decorations and enter the Halloween parade!
Beaches
An escape to a beach location like Isle of Palms this Halloween season means spending plenty of time on that beach, along with all the spooky fun. Cooler, yet still warm temperatures, mean you can spend a little extra time out in the sun and in the water than you would during the heat of summer. Sunbathe, take a walk or run on the beach for some exercise, build sandcastles with the kids, or plant a beach umbrella and enjoy a Halloween picnic or a good book. Splash in the waters of the Atlantic for water activities like swimming, snorkeling, SCUBA diving, or more adventurous activities like parasailing, wakeboarding, or windsurfing for an adrenaline-pumping good time.
Bikes
There are some places around town that your rental vehicle or golf cart can’t reach. Instead of missing out, rent a bike! You can take a tour of the area, get some exercise at the same time, as well as negotiate those tighter passages for a complete Isle of Palms experience. Choose from an array of companies that offer rentals that suit your needs and schedule. Reserve adult bikes, children’s bikes, and add accessories like child seats or trailers. All rentals include helmets, but you’ll want to ask about other safety gear and accessories like lights, extra baskets, and other accessories or gear you have on your bike at home.
Eco Tour
Before or after your haunted house tour, take a tour of the area’s salt marsh, tidal creeks, and the intracoastal waterway between Isle of Palms and Capers Island. Guided tours focus on and fill you in on the area’s ecosystem. Learn about sea life like bottlenose dolphins or loggerhead sea turtles, and a number of birds. Some tours also feature crab trap pulling and net casting to bring marine life in for an on-board presentation about the species before being released back to their home.
