The Charleston Festival
Formerly known as the Festival of Houses & Gardens, the annual event takes place in Charleston. For nearly 80 years the Historic Charleston Foundation has celebrated the houses, history, and culture of the area. Experience tour and events, including exclusive access to some of Charleston’s most beautiful private houses and gardens. Tickets are available from the link on the Historic Charleston Foundation website. The festival runs March 14, 2024 – April 14, 2024.
Cooper River Bridge Run
The Medical University of South Carolina encourages you to get out and exercise! The 10K run and 5K walk begins in Mt. Pleasant. It crosses the Cooper Rive Bridge, and finally ends in historic downtown Charleston. Last year’s race saw over 30,000 participants, and even more are expected this year. This year’s race is April 6, 2024. The 10K race begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K walk starts at 8:30 a.m. Register on the Bridge Run website.
Lowcountry Cajun Festival
Celebrate “Louisiana living & Charleston charm” at the annual festival. Stop by James Island County Park for fun, Zydeco music, Cajun and Creole food, children’s activities, and plenty of “ragin’ Cajun” entertainment. The event takes 12-6 p.m. on April 13, 2024. Sponsored by Family Circle magazine, the event is the first of its kind in women’s tennis. The magazine is the first title sponsor to partner with city and county municipalities to build a state-of-the-art tennis facility. The facility not only serves at the home of one of the most premier events on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, but it also provides the residents and visitors of Charleston access to one of the finest tennis facilities in the southeast U.S.
Blessing of the Fleet
This unique event celebrates and blesses the fleet of local shrimp and fishing boats in time for the spring and summer season. In addition to the two local clergymen who bless each vessel in the harbor, there’s a festival to celebrate the blessing. The festival includes more than ten seafood restaurants offering a variety of local seafood dishes. Add in live music from local performers, a shrimp eating contest, a shagging contest, and more and you’ve got a recipe for fun. The main stage hosts the bands, while the smaller stage plays host to the blessing itself. The event takes place April 28, 2024. The festival runs 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., with the official blessing taking place at 1 p.m.
Spoleto Festival USA
Celebrate Spoleto Festival USA in historic Charleston. Be entertained by an array of artistic performances. Musical performances like opera, jazz, orchestral, theater, chamber, and contemporary music can be enjoyed by all. There are also literary events and visual arts displays packing the halls and theaters of the area. The two-week event takes place May 22, 2024 – June 9, 2024. Piccolo Spoleto
Taking place alongside its parent celebration, the event focuses primarily on artists from the Southeast region. The program offers its own set of visual arts exhibits, theater, dance, poetry readings, ethnic cultural presentations, crafts, and film. Add in a variety of musical styles like jazz, choral, and more, and you have the perfect complement to the parent festival. This year’s festival runs May 24, 2024 – June 9, 2024.
