South Carolina boasts beautiful weather and comfortable temperatures for most of the year, and they start heating up in the spring. Along with the crashing waves of the Atlantic, the combination will have you pointing your compass toward the state and the city of Isle of Palms for a relaxing getaway, sprinkled with an event or festival or two, this spring 2023 in Isle of Palms. Pick your favorite event and come celebrate with us!

Front Beach Fest

Celebrate the beginning of spring in Isle of Palms at the free street festival. The family-friendly festival includes bounce houses, climbing walls, street performance, food trucks, local restaurants, and even a “Vendor village” for picking up fun festival souvenirs. The Holiday Band and the Pink Slips will provide live music from the beach! This year’s festival is March 4, 12-4 p.m. The best part: admission is free!

Music in the Park

Music lovers will love this day of music, food, and fun. The event takes place Isle of Palms County Park starting at 3 p.m. Bring a lawn chair, blanket, or other comfy seat along with your appetite and enjoy delicious food while the music provided by local bluegrass bands plays. The event takes place 3-7 p.m. on May 6, 2023 in the shade near the park’s picnic shelter. The event is still in the planning stages, so musical acts and food vendors have not yet been announced.

Charleston Food & Wine Festival

Charleston celebrates its delicious coastal cuisine and other favorites prepared by premier local restaurants with this festival. There’s a “Culinary Village” where you can sample food and wine, watch live cooking demo, take in live entertainment, and more. Attend one of the festival’s “Signature Events” or “Signature Dinners” that feature all things local or learn something new at a beverage workshop or hands-on class. Fill up on brunch and lunch specials or take an excursion tour to learn about what makes Charleston and the surrounding area unique!

Festival of Houses & Gardens

You’ll have to travel a bit, but the celebration is definitely worth the drive. The annual event gives you a peek at some of the area’s finest private gardens and residences. Each of nearly 150 private, historic homes participating in the festival give daily tours of the interiors and gardens of the property. Plan your days right and you can visit eight to ten of the properties each day. More details and tickets are available on the Historic Charleston Foundation website. This year’s festival runs March 15 – April 16, 2023.

Lowcountry Cajun Festival

Gather to celebrate Louisiana and Charleston charm and culture. The festival features a full day of Zydeco music, Cajun and Creole foods, activities for the kids, and all sorts of “ragin’ Cajun” fun. Fill your plate with jambalaya, alligator, etouffe, andouille sausage, and crawfish, then add in Lowcountry favorites like seafood and Southern barbecue. Cut out the spice in favor of hot dogs, sno cones, and other festival fare. The fun takes place 12-6 p.m. April 22, 2023 at James Island County Park in Charleston.

Blessing of the Fleet

Head over to nearby Mount Pleasant and celebrate the beginning of the shrimping season. Many local seafood restaurants will be on hand serving delicious dishes served with local seafood while The East Coast Party Band provides the entertainment throughout the afternoon from the main stage. In addition, you can take in shrimp eating and shagging contests, activities for the kids, and more. At 1 p.m., turn your attention to the small stage for the actual blessing of the fleet, a tradition that includes two local clergymen blessing each individual boat as it passes the harbor entrance. The event takes place April 30 at Memorial Waterfront Park, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Spoleto Festival USA

Celebrate the arts, including music, literary, and visual arts. Historic Charleston hosts the festival that features a myriad of artistic performances from opera, jazz, orchestral, and contemporary music, theater performances, and visual art displays. This year’s festival is May 26 – June 11. Performance and ticket information can be found on the festival website.
