Some parks are more than just a park, and that’s what you’ll find when you visit the Mount Pleasant Palmetto Islands County Park! This gorgeous, stretching piece of natural land covers 943 acres and is perfect for getting a taste of the wild South Carolina ecosystem, with accessible features like bicycle paths, boardwalk paths, and recreation areas for enjoying a picnic or grilling up some lunch. With so many highlights, it’s a great place to take the kids, or to escape for a serene journey through nature!
Miles of Paths and Trails
Whether you’re traversing the park by bike, or strolling along a boardwalk elevated above the marsh, you’ll find plenty of trails for exploring the scenery and searching for wildlife. The total area covers 1.1 miles of paved trails, and 4.4 miles of unpaved pathway. You’ll find nature walk areas made for trying to catch a glimpse of birds and other coastal creatures
Impressive Palmetto Park Mount Pleasant Amenities
From picnic sites conveniently located throughout the park, to a snack bar and vending machines, the amenities at the Palmetto Park Mount Pleasant Country Islands Park are above your typical park’s! Visitors will find an open meadow perfect for a round of kickball or to practice your frisbee throw, and nature enthusiasts will love the kayak launch, tidal creek fishing (with saltwater fishing license), and crabbing dock. There is also a small dog park with grass for your four-legged companion. Plenty of parking makes it easy to take advantage of everything the park has to offer, and restrooms near the meadow make it simple to stay awhile! Kids love the 50-foot observation tower, and the Big Toy playground is also a consistent hit. If you’re coming seasonally, you’ll find a Splash Island Waterpark!
You can find the park open different hours seasonally, with January to April from 8 a.m. to sunset, May to August from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and September to December 8 a.m. to sunset! If you need to try to call parks staff for any reason, you can at either 843-406-6950 or 843-795-4386.
