One of the highlights of any visit to Isle of Palms is the effortless access to amazing fresh caught seafood, and if you’re wanting a bit of an upscale experience rooted in local history and decades of family cooking, be sure to make a reservation at The Boathouse at Breach Inlet. Constructed on the site of an old bait shop, the restaurant was designed in the architectural style of a classic early 1900s South Carolina building and boasts the work of local craftsmen in the beautiful details of their building. The Boathouse truly has unbeatable ambiance and a fantastic seafood menu—you won’t want to sleep on this captivating restaurant!
Southern Cooking at Its Finest
The Boathouse Isle of Palms opened in 1997 and since then has always made an effort to serve up locally caught seafood from the Atlantic and marshy wetlands. Sourcing produce from local farmers was always a priority, and the seafood comes from local fishermen up and down the coast. The aesthetics are almost as important as the food, and you’ll find the restaurant lined with historic photos from famed ocean photographers and local scenery. Authentic rowboats hang from the ceilings and are older than most of the restaurant’s patrons!
Start off with appetizers like fried calamari or the raw oyster bar. For southern classics, you can’t miss out on the sweet corn hush puppies with sea salt honey butter, and the fried okra with remoulade. The fresh fish board is offered grilled, blackened, or pan seared, with your choice of beurre blanc, 3-pepper chutney, remoulade, or lemon basil aioli. Even better, you can make a meal of it and order additional sides like Boathouse blue cheese coleslaw or stone-ground grits. Entrees offer a selection of delicacies like pan-roasted scallops, and spicy shrimp and grits, while there is also a chicken option offered and a variety of salads.
You can find The Boathouse open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily. If you want to give them a call, you can at 843-886-8000!
